ABOUT THIS WINE
Quinta da Gaivosa's 10 Years Old Tawny Port is a fortified wine from Portugal's Douro region, crafted by the Alves de Sousa family, who have been making wine for five generations. The winery itself is a modern, award-winning facility. The wine is a blend of over 30 native old vine grape varieties, including Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional. The '10 Years' designation indicates an average age of the wines in the blend, representing a balance of maturity and freshness. The Alves de Sousa family's winemaking legacy is marked by a transition from supplying grapes to establishing their own producer-bottler identity, with Domingos Alves de Sousa recognized as a pioneer in Douro wines.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
This Tawny Port is produced using the traditional Port wine method. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts at temperatures between 20-25°C for 3-4 days, after which it is interrupted with grape spirit at 77% ABV. The wine then undergoes aging in old French oak casks for an average of 10 years. This process contributes to the wine's characteristic profile, balancing the influence of wood aging with the inherent characteristics of the grape blend.
