ABOUT THIS WINE
Martin Arndorfer and Anna Steininger, the husband-and-wife team behind Arndorfer und Freunde, represent a new wave of Austrian winemaking. Based in Strass im Strassertal within the Kamptal region, both come from multi-generational winemaking families. Their perspective shifted after working globally and experiencing the natural wine scene in Paris, inspiring them to adopt a low-intervention philosophy. This 1-liter bottling is a playful, deliberate reimagining of the traditional Austrian Landwein historically served in taverns. By putting high-quality, estate-grown fruit into an eco-conscious, crown-capped liter bottle, they have elevated a humble category into a celebrated, artisanal product.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The grapes are hand-harvested from estate vineyards with an average vine age of 25 years, grown on deep loess, clay, and gravel soils. In the cellar, the fruit undergoes gentle whole-cluster pressing, with a small portion receiving up to six hours of skin contact to build texture. Fermentation is entirely spontaneous using native yeasts. To balance freshness and texture, approximately 60% to 85% of the juice is fermented in stainless steel, while the remaining 15% to 40% is fermented in large, neutral oak casks. The wine undergoes full, natural malolactic fermentation and is aged for eight months on its fine lees. It is bottled completely unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur additions.
