ABOUT THIS WINE
Founded in 2006 by winemaker Francesc Grimalt and musician Sergio Caballero, 4 Kilos Vinícola has redefined the viticultural landscape of Mallorca. Operating from a converted sheep barn in Felanitx, the estate champions indigenous grape varieties, particularly Callet, which Grimalt is credited with saving from obscurity. The winery's name is a colloquial nod to their modest initial investment of four million pesetas, proving that world-class wines can be crafted through passion, creativity, and respect for the land rather than massive financial backing. The estate's vineyards are farmed organically, utilizing native ground cover to foster biodiversity and soil health.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for the flagship 4 Kilos wine emphasizes minimal intervention and a gentle touch to let the delicate Callet grape express its terroir. Sourced from old vines grown on the iron-rich 'Call Vermell' clay-loam soils, the grapes are hand-harvested and strictly sorted. Spontaneous fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts, with half of the fruit vinified in stainless steel tanks and the other half in open-top 2,500-liter wooden vats. The wine is then aged for 12 months in a combination of 225-liter and 600-liter French oak barrels, favoring older, neutral wood to prevent oak flavors from overpowering the wine's natural elegance.
