ABOUT THIS WINE
The Girolamo Russo 'a Rina Etna Rosso 2022 is a red wine from the Etna Rosso DOC appellation in Sicily, Italy. Produced by Azienda Girolamo Russo, the wine is primarily made from Nerello Mascalese with a smaller proportion of Nerello Cappuccio. The name 'a Rina translates to 'sand' in the local dialect, referencing the sandy volcanic soils of Mount Etna. The grapes are sourced from various vineyard sites (contradas) on the northern slopes of the volcano, with vines ranging from 20 to 100 years old. The estate was founded by Giuseppe Russo, who returned to his family's ancestral land to continue a tradition of viticulture, drawing inspiration from his father, Girolamo.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Girolamo Russo 'a Rina Etna Rosso 2022 is produced using traditional methods with a focus on minimal intervention. Grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, open vats, and/or cement tanks, with maceration on the skins lasting around 10 days. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately 12 months in a mix of large Slavonian oak barrels, barriques, and cement tanks. A further six months of bottle aging precedes release. The estate employs organic farming practices.
