ABOUT THIS WINE
Montrubi Durona Tinto is a red wine from the Penedès region of Catalonia, Spain, produced by HMR Mont Rubí. It is a blend primarily featuring Sumoll, complemented by Grenache and Carignan. The 'Durona' designation specifically refers to grapes sourced from a historic plot on the Mont Rubí estate, known for its old vines. The Peris family founded HMR Mont Rubí in 1984 with a mission to revive indigenous grape varieties, particularly Sumoll, and to express the unique terroir of the Alt Penedès through their wines. The vineyards are situated at elevations between 400 and 800 meters, benefiting from a significant diurnal temperature range that supports grape maturation.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Montrubi Durona Tinto begins with a cold prefermentation maceration. Gentle extraction is achieved through pigeage (punchdown) during fermentation, which lasts for an extended period of 45 days. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, with a portion of new oak. A further 24 months of bottle aging follows before release. The winery practices organic farming and holds Bio and Vegan certifications. They also utilize innovative aging vessels such as concrete eggs and artisanal clay amphoras.
