ABOUT THIS WINE
AdegaMãe was founded in 2010 by the Alves family, owners of the renowned Riberalves Group, as a heartfelt tribute to the family matriarch, Manuela Alves ('Mãe' meaning mother in Portuguese). Located in the cool, Atlantic-influenced Torres Vedras region of Lisboa, the estate is celebrated for its focus on terroir-driven, saline, and fresh white wines. This particular bottling represents a pioneering release: a single-varietal Gouveio, a grape native to northern Portugal, sourced from an experimental plot planted in 2015 to see how the variety would adapt to the region's demanding maritime climate. The spectacular 2024 harvest convinced the winemaking team to bottle it on its own for the first time.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The grapes are hand-harvested from the estate's experimental plot in Ventosa, characterized by clay-limestone soils and strong Atlantic wind exposure. After gentle pressing and low-temperature decanting, the juice undergoes fermentation entirely in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the pure, vibrant fruit characteristics of the Gouveio grape. Following fermentation, the wine is aged on its fine lees with regular bâtonnage (lees stirring) for a period of six months, which imparts a rich, creamy texture and enhances the mid-palate complexity before bottling.
