ABOUT THIS WINE
Akakies by Kir-Yianni is a distinguished rosé wine produced in the PDO Amyndeon region of Northern Greece. It is made exclusively from 100% Xinomavro grapes, a native varietal that thrives in the area's cool, high-altitude climate. The vineyards are situated in Agios Panteleimonas, on a plateau exceeding 600 meters in elevation, where the sandy soil contributes to the wine's aromatic complexity. Kir-Yianni, a family winery founded by Yiannis Boutaris and now managed by his son Stellios, is dedicated to innovation while honoring traditional winemaking. Akakies is recognized as a leading example of Greek rosé, showcasing the elegant potential of Xinomavro. The 2023 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season, with grapes hand-harvested on October 11th.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The production of Akakies begins with strict selection of hand-harvested Xinomavro grapes from high-altitude vineyards. A crucial step is the cold pre-fermentation maceration, where grape skins remain in contact with the juice for up to 48 hours to extract deep color and aromatic compounds. Following this, the juice is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and acidity. The wine then undergoes aging on its fine lees for about three months, with bâtonnage (stirring) employed to build texture and complexity. This meticulous process results in a rosé wine that is both vibrant and nuanced, reflecting the unique terroir of Amyndeon and Kir-Yianni's commitment to quality.
