ABOUT THIS WINE
Alambre Moscatel de Setúbal is a fortified sweet wine from the Setúbal Peninsula in Portugal, produced by José Maria da Fonseca, the country's oldest table wine company, established in 1834 and still family-owned. The wine is crafted primarily from the Moscatel de Setúbal grape, a variety that thrives in the region's specific terroir. A key aspect of its production involves aging in oak barrels, where it undergoes natural oxidation, contributing to its unique harmony and capacity for longevity. This process distinguishes Alambre Moscatel de Setúbal as a wine with a deep connection to its origin and a rich winemaking heritage.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The production of Alambre Moscatel de Setúbal begins with the fermentation of Moscatel de Setúbal grapes, which is then arrested by the addition of brandy. This fortification process preserves the wine's natural sweetness. After fermentation, the wine undergoes a maceration period on the skins for three months. Subsequently, it is aged in oak barrels, during which time it develops through natural oxidation. This extended aging in wood contributes to the wine's harmony and its potential for long-term cellaring.
