ABOUT THIS WINE
Albe by G.D. Vajra is a 2021 Barolo D.O.C.G. from Piedmont, Italy, made from 100% Nebbiolo. The wine's name, 'Albe,' meaning 'sunrises,' reflects its origin from high-elevation vineyards where three distinct sunrises are visible. This cuvée is crafted as a tribute to the historical practice of blending grapes from various sites to achieve a harmonious and complete Barolo, rather than focusing on single-vineyard expressions. G.D. Vajra, a family-run estate in Vergne, is recognized for its commitment to elegance and terroir, with a long-standing dedication to organic viticulture, dating back to 1971. The 2021 vintage benefited from a favorable growing season culminating in a late harvest, yielding grapes with excellent acidity and ripeness.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2021 Albe Barolo undergoes fermentation in custom-designed vertical vats, employing gentle punch-downs and pump-overs. Maceration on the skins is notably extended, ranging from 30 to 61 days, sometimes utilizing the submerged cap technique to enhance extraction. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel the following spring. The wine is then aged for 24 to 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks (botti) of varying capacities (40, 50, and 75 hectoliters), a traditional approach aimed at preserving the primary fruit characteristics of the Nebbiolo grape. Harvest for the 2021 vintage occurred between October 5th and 21st, with grapes undergoing three rounds of manual sorting.
