ABOUT THIS WINE
Alpha Estate's Xinomavro Single Vineyard 'Hedgehog' 2023 hails from the Amyndeon appellation in Macedonia, Greece. This wine is a pure expression of the Xinomavro grape, sourced from a specific high-altitude vineyard block known as 'Hedgehog.' The vineyard's unique terroir, characterized by sandy-clay soils and excellent drainage at elevations between 620-710 meters, contributes to the concentration of flavors. Founded in 1997, Alpha Estate is committed to showcasing the potential of Greek indigenous varietals, with a philosophy rooted in estate-grown fruit and meticulous winemaking. The cool climate of Amyndeon is instrumental in developing the complex aromatics and balanced structure characteristic of this Xinomavro.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Alpha Estate's Xinomavro 'Hedgehog' begins with manual harvesting into small baskets. The grapes undergo destemming and light crushing, followed by a cold soak with skin contact to maximize color and flavor extraction. Alcoholic fermentation occurs at controlled, gradually increasing temperatures. Post-fermentation, the wine is aged 'sur lies' for eight months with regular stirring to develop its texture and complexity. Further aging takes place for 12 months in French oak casks, followed by another 12 months in bottle prior to release, ensuring the wine's integration and readiness.
