ABOUT THIS WINE
The Aphros Phaunus Loureiro 2022 is a 100% Loureiro white wine from the Vinho Verde DOC in Portugal's Lima sub-region. Produced by Adega Aphros Wine, a biodynamic estate led by Vasco Croft, the wine is part of their 'Phaunus' range, which focuses on skin-contact wines. The estate's vineyards are situated on south-facing granite soils overlooking the Lima River. Winemaking takes place in a historic cellar that operates without electricity, utilizing traditional methods. This specific wine is distinguished by its fermentation and maturation in clay amphorae lined with beeswax, a practice that connects to ancient winemaking traditions. The grapes are farmed using biodynamic and ecological methods, with the 2022 harvest taking place in mid-September.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Adega Aphros Wine Aphros Phaunus Loureiro 2022 is crafted using 100% Loureiro grapes. Following harvest, the grapes are crushed, de-stemmed, and pressed using artisanal methods. A key technique is the spontaneous fermentation with skins in clay amphorae lined with beeswax. The wine then undergoes 'sur lies' aging for 6 months in these same amphorae. The entire winemaking process, including foot-treading in granite lagares and aging, is conducted in a historic cellar that operates without electricity, reflecting the producer's commitment to natural and traditional practices. The wine is intentionally unfined, unfiltered, and minimally sulfured.
