ABOUT THIS WINE
Masseria Li Veli's Askos project is a dedicated endeavor to revive and celebrate ancient, near-extinct indigenous grape varieties of Puglia. The name Askos refers to the traditional Greek decanter, paying homage to the ancient Greek settlers who introduced viticulture to the region in the 8th century BC. Founded in the 19th century by Marquis Antonio de Viti de Marco, the estate was acquired and restored in 1999 by the Falvo family, renowned for their success at Avignonesi in Tuscany. Located in the Salento peninsula, the winery has pioneered the production of Verdeca as a premium monovarietal wine since 2009, transforming its reputation from a simple blending grape into an award-winning specialty.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Verdeca grapes are sourced from vines over 20 years old grown on sandy, calcareous limestone soils in the Salento region. The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates in early September to preserve their integrity. In the cellar, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at low temperatures strictly maintained between 11°C and 15°C. This cold fermentation preserves the delicate, volatile tropical and floral aromatics of the Verdeca grape. The wine is then aged for 3 to 6 months in stainless steel tanks with zero oak contact, ensuring absolute varietal purity and crispness before filtration and bottling under a technical Diam cork.
