ABOUT THIS WINE
Badia a Passignano is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, surrounding the historic Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo, where Vallombrosan monks have cultivated Sangiovese since the year 1000. The Antinori family acquired this historic estate and its 10th-century monastic cellars in 1987, dedicating the site to creating a benchmark monovarietal expression of Chianti Classico. The 2021 vintage represents one of the finest growing seasons in the region's history, benefiting from a cool spring and a warm summer with significant diurnal shifts that allowed the Sangiovese grapes to ripen slowly and beautifully.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The grapes were harvested from late September to mid-October, destemmed, selected, and gently crushed. Alcoholic fermentation took place over approximately 10 days, followed by 10 to 12 days of skin maceration. After racking, the wine underwent spontaneous malolactic fermentation. It was then aged for several months in Hungarian and French oak barrels, followed by substantial bottle refinement in the estate's historic 10th-century monastic cellars before release.
