ABOUT THIS WINE
Alagoa 1919 is a forward-thinking project based in Portugal's southern Algarve region, dedicated to reviving historical viticultural practices and exploring unconventional grape varieties in the warm maritime climate. This unique bottling features Baga, a grape native to the cool, damp northern region of Bairrada, transplanted to the sun-drenched soils of the Algarve. By utilizing clay amphorae (ânforas) for aging, the producer honors ancient Roman winemaking traditions while crafting a contemporary, terroir-driven rosé that challenges conventional Portuguese wine styles.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Baga grapes are hand-harvested early in the morning to preserve their natural high acidity. After a gentle whole-cluster pressing with minimal skin contact to achieve a delicate pale pink hue, the juice is fermented using native yeasts. The wine is then aged in traditional clay amphorae (ânforas). This porous vessel allows for slow, controlled micro-oxygenation, which rounds out the grape's naturally sharp edges and builds a textured, mineral-driven mouthfeel without imparting any oak flavors.
