ABOUT THIS WINE
Cascina Disa's Barbera d'Alba Superiore 2021 hails from the esteemed Piedmont region of Italy, specifically the Monforte d'Alba sub-region. Winemaker Elio Sandri, who took over his family's estate, Cascina Disa, in 2000, is known for his deeply traditional and minimalist approach to winemaking. His philosophy centers on allowing the natural processes and the unique terroir to express themselves fully in the wine. The estate's vineyards are located on hillsides between 300-350 meters, with soils composed of grayish loams, sand, limestone, and clay. This Barbera d'Alba Superiore is distinctive for its adherence to these low-intervention principles, utilizing old vines and aging in neutral oak to highlight the grape and its origin.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The production of Cascina Disa's Barbera d'Alba Superiore 2021 follows a traditional, low-intervention approach. Grapes are fermented using indigenous yeasts, a method that allows the natural microflora to contribute to the wine's character. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes aging in neutral, older wooden casks (botti) for 8 to 18 months, a process designed to allow for maturation and integration without the influence of new oak. The estate practices organic farming, though it is not officially certified, and harvests are carried out by hand to ensure fruit quality.
