ABOUT THIS WINE
Bárnag is a Hungarian natural wine project established in 2017 by winemaker Bence Szilágyi. Located in the village of Barnag in the Balaton-Uplands region, the wines are crafted with a philosophy of minimal intervention. Szilágyi utilizes organic, no-till farming practices and spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The estate's vineyards are situated on rolling hills with varied soil types, influenced by the nearby Lake Balaton. The project's name, 'Grand Vin de Barnag', is a lighthearted reference to prestigious French wine appellations, reflecting the winemaker's unique approach. Production is small, with around 10,000 bottles annually.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Bárnag wines are produced using a minimal intervention approach, often referred to as 'zero-zero'. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Red wines frequently utilize whole-cluster fermentation, sometimes incorporating carbonic maceration. Following fermentation, the wines are aged in used Hungarian and French oak barrels. They are intentionally not fined or filtered, and sulfur is added minimally, only if deemed necessary for stability before bottling. This meticulous process aims to capture the essence of the vineyard and the vintage.
