ABOUT THIS WINE
G.D. Vajra, founded in 1972 by Giuseppe Domenico Vajra and championed today by Aldo Vajra, his wife Milena, and their children, is located in the high-elevation village of Vergne in Barolo, Piedmont. Aldo was a pioneer of organic farming in the region, adopting sustainable practices in 1971. The Albe bottling is a tribute to the historic blending traditions of the 1950s and 60s, combining fruit from three distinct high-altitude estate crus: Fossati, Coste di Vergne, and La Volta. The name Albe, meaning sunrises, represents the three unique sunrises that warm these differently angled slopes each morning.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2019 vintage was hand-harvested between October 7th and 19th, following a triple-selection process. Spontaneous fermentation took place in custom vertical vats using indigenous yeasts, with gentle extraction via manual punch-downs and pump-overs. Maceration on the skins lasted an average of 27 days, with some tanks extending up to 60 days using a submerged-cap technique. Following spontaneous malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, the wine was aged for 23 months in large, neutral Slavonian oak casks of 50 to 75 hectoliters, before being bottled in July 2022.
