ABOUT THIS WINE
Barolo Castelletto Giovanni Manzone 2019 is a Nebbiolo-based wine from the Castelletto Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA) in Monforte d'Alba, Piedmont. The grapes are sourced from a single vineyard replanted in 1999, situated on a steep, east-southeast facing slope with calcareous clay soil. The Manzone family, with a winemaking history dating back to 1925, manages the estate, with the fifth generation now at the helm. They adhere to traditional winemaking practices, favoring large Slavonian oak casks over new French oak, and emphasize nature-friendly agriculture. Production is intentionally limited, resulting in a few thousand bottles per year.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2019 Barolo Castelletto Giovanni Manzone is produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. The winemaking process begins with spontaneous fermentation using native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, with maceration lasting 30 to 40 days at 28°C, employing soft pumping over or cap irrigation. Post-fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately three years in large Slavonian oak casks (500-700L). It then rests in concrete tanks for a few months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulfur added. The winery practices nature-friendly agriculture, avoiding insecticides and fertilizers.
