ABOUT THIS WINE
The Barolo DOCG from Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno is a traditional expression of this iconic Italian wine. Established in 1897, the estate is one of the oldest in Barolo, with a history deeply intertwined with the region. The Borgogno family, now in its fifth generation of winemaking, adheres to a philosophy of minimal intervention, aiming to capture the authentic character of the Nebbiolo grape and its specific vineyard origins. Grapes are sourced from esteemed crus within the Barolo municipality, such as Cannubi, Liste, and Fossati. The wine is aged in large, traditional Slavonian oak barrels, a method that allows the purity of the fruit and terroir to shine through without the influence of new oak.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process at Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno emphasizes tradition. Grapes are fermented using indigenous yeasts in large wooden vats, followed by a maceration period of 15-20 days with frequent pumping over. The wine is then aged for a minimum of four years in large Slavonian oak barrels, a practice that respects the purity of the Nebbiolo grape. A further six months of bottle refinement precedes release. Sustainable practices, including cover cropping and avoiding herbicides, are employed in the vineyards, with an ongoing conversion to organic farming.
