ABOUT THIS WINE
The Barolo Pira Vecchie Viti 2018 from Roagna Azienda Agricola I Paglieri S.S. is a 100% Nebbiolo wine from the Barolo DOCG appellation in Piedmont, Italy. Its uniqueness stems from the Pira vineyard, a monopole owned by Roagna, characterized by chalky limestone soils. The 'Vecchie Viti' in its name signifies the use of old vines. The Roagna family has a winemaking history in Piedmont dating back over a century, with their modern focus on old vines and biodiverse viticulture. The 2018 vintage, though challenging, is noted for producing a classic Roagna wine that is light, nervous, and expressive.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Barolo Pira Vecchie Viti 2018 begins with hand-harvested grapes, selected twice manually. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats using indigenous yeasts and a pied de cuve. A key technique is the ancient submerged cap maceration, which lasts for 60 to 70 days. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately five years in neutral oak and concrete vats.
