ABOUT THIS WINE
Barroca da Malhada Vinho Branco 2022 hails from the Beira Interior DOC, Portugal's highest altitude wine region. This white wine is crafted by Brazilian architects Fernando and Luciana Teixeira de Camargo, who revived the historic Barroca da Malhada property, dating back to the Middle Ages. Their philosophy centers on artisanal, low-intervention winemaking, reflecting the natural character of the land through organic and biodynamic practices. The 2022 vintage is an early expression of their commitment, being only the second vintage produced, highlighting its small-batch, handcrafted nature. The wine's complexity is further enhanced by a unique aging regimen utilizing stainless steel, Portuguese oak, and amphora.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Barroca da Malhada Vinho Branco 2022 is produced from 5 hectares of vineyards featuring clay-sand and granitic sandy-schist soils. The estate employs organic and biodynamic farming with a strong emphasis on minimal intervention. In the cellar, the winemaking process involves fermentation at low temperatures to preserve aromatic freshness. A key technique is regular bâtonnage (lees stirring) and prolonged aging on fine lees, which contributes to the wine's voluminous texture and complexity. The wine undergoes an eight-month aging period, with 80% in stainless steel, 10% in first-use Portuguese oak barrels, and 10% in amphora, allowing for a multifaceted development of character.
