ABOUT THIS WINE
Terre de L'Élu, managed by Charlotte and Thomas Carsin since 2008, is located in the heart of the 'Anjou Noir' region on the right bank of the Layon River in the Loire Valley. In 2018, frustrated by the rigid bureaucratic constraints of the appellation system, the Carsins made the bold decision to withdraw from the AOC Anjou. Rebranding from Clos de l'Élu to Terre de l'Élu, they embraced the freedom of the Vin de France classification. This choice allowed them to focus entirely on biodynamic viticulture and expressive, terroir-driven winemaking without compromise.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2024 Bastingage is crafted from 100% Chenin Blanc harvested manually from four distinct estate parcels on dark schist and quartz soils. Following a challenging, low-yielding growing season, the grapes underwent slow, direct pressing of whole clusters. Fermentation occurred naturally with indigenous yeasts in seasoned 500-liter oak barrels (demi-muids), followed by 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine aged on its fine lees in barrel for 12 months before being racked and blended in stainless steel vats for an additional 4 to 5 months to integrate and refine its structure prior to bottling with minimal sulfites.
