ABOUT THIS WINE
Founded in 2005 by Rodrigo 'Rodri' Méndez in Meaño, Galicia, Forjas del Salnés is a boutique estate dedicated to preserving the ancestral viticultural heritage of Rías Baixas. The winery's name pays tribute to the iron forge run by Rodri's grandfather, Francisco Méndez, a legendary pioneer of the region. In collaboration with the iconic, boundary-pushing winemaker Raúl Pérez, Rodri crafts wines that express the true maritime character of the Val do Salnés sub-region. While Bastión de la Luna is globally renowned as the estate's premium red blend, they also produce this rare, highly acclaimed 100% Albariño white version under the same label, offering a texturally complex counterpoint that marries Atlantic salinity with structural depth.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for this Albariño focuses on low-intervention, natural methods to highlight the coastal terroir. Grapes are hand-harvested from 40-year-old vines grown on granitic soils. Spontaneous fermentation takes place using only indigenous ambient yeasts in the cellar, without temperature control. To preserve the grape's vibrant, natural acidity, the wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation. It is aged on its fine lees in a combination of stainless steel vats and large, neutral French oak foudres. This oak contact is carefully managed to provide gentle oxygenation and structural roundness rather than imparting sweet wood flavors, resulting in a beautifully textured, age-worthy white wine.
