ABOUT THIS WINE
Blandy's 10 Years Old Bual is a non-vintage fortified wine from the Madeira region of Portugal, produced by the Madeira Wine Company. The Blandy family, with a winemaking tradition dating back to 1811, is the sole remaining founding family still managing its original company. The Bual grape, primarily grown on Madeira's south coast, is used for this wine. A distinctive aspect of its production is the 'Canteiro' aging system, a traditional method of gradual transfer between different temperature zones in the lodge, which concentrates the wine over an average of 10 years in seasoned American oak casks.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Blandy's 10 Years Old Bual is produced using the Bual grape. Fermentation takes place off the skins in stainless steel tanks and is halted by the addition of grape brandy after about three days, determining the wine's sweetness. The wine then undergoes an average of 10 years of aging in seasoned American oak casks through the 'Canteiro' system. This traditional method involves moving the wine between different temperature zones in the lodge, which aids in its natural concentration and development. Regular racking and fining are also part of the aging process.
