ABOUT THIS WINE
The Boekenhoutskloof Syrah 2020 is a 100% Syrah from the Swartland region of South Africa. Produced by Boekenhoutskloof, a winery established in 1776 and revitalized in 1993, this vintage is noted as the first to be bottled under 14% alcohol, aiming for a more restrained style. The grapes are sourced from two Swartland farms: Porseleinberg, planted on decomposed mica-schist bedrock, and Goldmine, featuring brown schist with sandstone deposits. The 2020 growing season was moderately dry, contributing to moderate alcohol levels and lower pH, resulting in bright fruit and an elegant profile.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Boekenhoutskloof Syrah 2020 is produced using 100% Syrah grapes. Hand-harvested grapes are fermented spontaneously in tulip-shaped concrete tanks, with 60% whole bunches included. Minimal sulfur is added, and no acidification is performed. A soft délestage is carried out 2-3 times daily during fermentation. The wine is then aged for up to 18 months, primarily in 2,500L Austrian oak foudres and 600L demi-muids.
