ABOUT THIS WINE
Established in 2012 by the brother-and-sister team Alberto and Caterina Burzi, this boutique estate in La Morra represents a dynamic 'third way' in Barolo winemaking. The vineyards, which historically belonged to their grandparents, were previously leased to legendary local producers before the siblings reclaimed them to bottle their own legacy. Managing just seven hectares of old vines, Burzi crafts wines that bridge traditional and modernist philosophies, focusing on elegance, fruit purity, and early-drinking harmony without sacrificing the legendary aging potential of the region.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2021 vintage marks a milestone for Burzi, transitioning entirely to spontaneous fermentation with 100% native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The Nebbiolo grapes undergo a prolonged skin maceration of 25 to 30 days. A key viticultural shift is the use of 'tressage' (weaving the canopy instead of hedging) to achieve optimal physiological ripeness. The wine is aged for 24 to 30 months in large, neutral 60-hectoliter Austrian oak casks from Stockinger, which are steam-treated rather than toasted to preserve fruit purity. It is finished for 12 months in concrete tanks before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
