ABOUT THIS WINE
Vina Ratek (Kmetija Ratek) is a three-generation family estate located along the famous Jeruzalem Wine Road in Štajerska Slovenija, a region globally renowned almost exclusively for its white wines. To challenge regional norms, the Ratek family crafted Cabera, a rare, robust organic red blend. The estate, managed by Vinko and Metka Ratek alongside the younger generation, has committed to strict organic farming on steep slopes at over 270 meters elevation. This wine represents their Ours, But Different philosophy, showcasing the wilder, darker potential of their unique cool-climate terroir.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The grapes for Cabera are 100% hand-harvested (ročno trgano) from steep, sandy-clayey marl slopes with gradients up to 40%. In the cellar, the grapes undergo patient maceration on the skins in traditional vaulted cellars to extract deep color and structured tannins from the cool-climate skins. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for exactly one year in oak barrels (hrastovih sodih) to integrate wood tannins, round out the acidity, and build aromatic complexity before bottling.
