ABOUT THIS WINE
Bodegas Bernabeleva was founded in 1923 by Dr. Vicente Álvarez-Villamil in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, at the base of the Sierra de Gredos. The estate takes its name from ancient Celtic stone bear carvings found on the property. Winemaking was revitalized in 2006 by Dr. Vicente's great-grandchildren, Juan Diéz Bulnes and Santiago Matallana Bulnes, alongside acclaimed winemaker Raúl Pérez and Marc Isart Pinos. The winery focuses on expressive, high-altitude Garnacha grown on nutrient-poor, decomposed granite soils.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Hand-harvested grapes are chilled for 24 hours to promote pre-fermentative maceration. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in a combination of wooden vats, concrete, and stainless steel tanks using partial whole-cluster inclusion. Maceration spans 15 to 30 days with gentle gravity pump-overs to extract fine-grained tannins. The wine ages for 6 to 8 months in large French oak vats (foudres) before minimal processing and bottling.
