ABOUT THIS WINE
Manuel dos Santos Campolargo Herdeiros, located in the heart of Portugal's Bairrada region, is a highly respected family-owned estate known for its innovative approach to traditional Portuguese winemaking. Founded on a legacy of grape growing, the estate began estate-bottling its own wines in the 1990s under the guidance of Carlos Campolargo. The estate is famous for championing indigenous varieties like Baga and Castelão, while also experimenting with international grapes. This particular red blend showcases the harmony between Baga, Bairrada's signature structured and high-acid grape, and Castelão, which brings fleshy red fruit and approachability. The vineyards are situated on clay-limestone soils, heavily influenced by the cooling Atlantic breezes, resulting in wines of exceptional freshness, balance, and sense of place.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process at Campolargo combines traditional methods with modern precision. Grapes are entirely destemmed to avoid harsh, green tannins, a crucial step when working with the naturally tannic Baga grape. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and open wooden vats (lagares) with gentle extraction. The wine is then aged in used French oak barrels for several months to round out the tannins and integrate the components without overpowering the bright fruit character. This careful oak regime ensures the vibrant acidity and mineral-driven terroir of Bairrada remain the focal point.
