ABOUT THIS WINE
Can Blau is a red wine from Cellers Can Blau, located in the D.O. Montsant region of Catalonia, Spain. The wine is a blend primarily featuring Cariñena, Syrah, and Garnacha, with vineyard parcels meticulously chosen for their specific soil types: sandy and clay for Cariñena, limestone for Syrah, and slate for Garnacha. The winery itself is part of the Gil Family Estates and is notable for its commitment to sustainability, operating entirely off-grid using solar power. Founded in 2003, Cellers Can Blau aims to produce expressive wines that reflect the unique terroir of Montsant, often utilizing old vines averaging 40 years in age, situated at altitudes around 2,000 feet.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Can Blau begins with the separate vinification of its three core grape varieties: Cariñena, Syrah, and Garnacha. Each varietal is fermented in stainless steel tanks for about 20 days at a controlled temperature of 25°C, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine then undergoes aging in French oak barrels for 9 to 12 months. The vineyards are managed sustainably, being dry-farmed and free from pesticides and herbicides, with harvests performed manually. The winery itself is powered by solar energy, reflecting a commitment to environmental responsibility.
