ABOUT THIS WINE
The Sorpasso Carema 2020 is a red wine from the Carema DOC appellation in Piedmont, Italy. Produced by Sorpasso, a project by Vittorio Garda and Martina Ghirardo, the wine is primarily crafted from Nebbiolo, known locally as 'Picotendro,' with smaller contributions from Ner d'Ala and Neretto. The Carema region is characterized by its steep, terraced vineyards situated at high altitudes, requiring meticulous hand-cultivation, a practice referred to as 'heroic viticulture.' Sorpasso is committed to expressing the unique terroir of this mountainous environment. The 2020 vintage is recognized for its particular characteristics within this challenging yet rewarding appellation.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Sorpasso Carema 2020 begins with hand-harvested grapes. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, followed by an extended maceration period, potentially lasting up to 90 days with a submerged cap. Post-fermentation, the wine undergoes aging for about 15 months in used oak casks, including barriques and tonneaux. The wine is bottled without clarification or filtration, preserving its natural character. Organic farming practices are employed in the vineyards.
