ABOUT THIS WINE
Carusu Etna Rosso DOC 2021 is a red wine from the Etna Rosso DOC appellation in Sicily, Italy, produced by Terrazze dell'Etna. The wine is named 'Carusu,' meaning 'boy' in Sicilian dialect, reflecting its youthful and vibrant nature. Terrazze dell'Etna was established in 2008 by Nino Bevilacqua, driven by a passion for Sicily and its products, cultivating indigenous grapes on small, terraced plots. The vineyards are situated on the northwest slopes of Mount Etna, at altitudes between 650 and 850 meters, in volcanic soil derived from lava flows. The vines are between 10 and 30 years old. The 2021 vintage was influenced by a cool, ventilated climate with significant diurnal temperature shifts. The wine is vegan-friendly.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Carusu Etna Rosso DOC undergoes long and controlled macerations. Following maceration, the wine is aged for 6 months in wood, with a subsequent minimum of 6 months of bottle aging (some sources suggest up to 24 months). The harvest typically occurs in the second decade of October. The producer's philosophy centers on expressing the unique characteristics of the Etna terroir through indigenous grape varieties cultivated on small, terraced plots.
