ABOUT THIS WINE
Casa de Sarmento Branco Bruto is a sparkling white wine from the Bairrada region of Portugal, produced by Casa de Sarmento. The blend includes Chardonnay, Arinto, Baga, Bical, and Maria Gomes. The winery was founded by chef Gonçalo Sarmento, whose restaurant, Meta dos Leitões, is a local institution. This connection influences the winery's commitment to quality and self-sufficiency. The Bairrada region's proximity to the Atlantic Ocean provides a maritime climate that shapes the wine's character. A distinctive aspect of this wine is the inclusion of the red grape Baga in its white blend, alongside a production process utilizing the traditional method with extended lees aging.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Casa de Sarmento Branco Bruto is produced using the traditional method, involving a secondary fermentation in the bottle to create its effervescence. The wine is aged on its lees for 24 months, a significant period that contributes to its complexity and texture. The grapes are harvested in August, benefiting from the Bairrada region's maritime climate. Winemaker Mário Ferreira's philosophy centers on minimal intervention, allowing the unique blend of grapes, including the red variety Baga, to express the vineyard's character. The production volumes are notable, with approximately 27,000 bottles produced for the Swedish market.
