ABOUT THIS WINE
The Castagnolo Orvieto Classico Superiore is a dry white wine from the Barberani family, pioneers in Umbrian winemaking. Established in 1961 by Luigi and Giovanna Barberani, the estate is now run by their sons, Bernardo and Niccolò. The family has a long-standing commitment to organic farming, having been certified since the 1980s, long before it became a widespread trend. The Castagnolo bottling is specifically named after its vineyard site, which is situated in the rolling hills of Orvieto, overlooking Lake Corbara. This unique location and its diverse soils contribute significantly to the wine's distinctive mineral character and expression of terroir. The 2023 vintage received 90 points from Antonio Galloni and 87 points from Robert Parker.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Barberani estate employs sustainable and organic viticultural practices, including hand-harvesting to ensure the highest quality grapes and minimal intervention to protect vineyard health and biodiversity. The vineyards benefit from a complex mix of volcanic, tufa, limestone, and clay-rich soils. For vinification, the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks using native yeasts. This approach is chosen to preserve the wine's inherent freshness, varietal purity, and to allow the unique characteristics of the Orvieto terroir to shine through.
