ABOUT THIS WINE
Castello della Sala Pinot Nero 2019 is a red wine from the Umbria IGT, produced by Marchesi Antinori. It is crafted from 100% Pinot Nero grapes grown on four hectares of vineyards situated at an altitude of 400 meters. The vineyards are characterized by calcareous soils rich in fossils and sedimentary sands. The Antinori family, with a winemaking history exceeding six centuries, acquired the historic Castello della Sala estate in 1940. While the estate is renowned for its white wines, this Pinot Nero offers a distinct red expression of the Umbrian terroir, considered a counterpart to the estate's white wine, Cervaro della Sala.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Castello della Sala Pinot Nero begins with destemming and soft pressing of the grapes. These are then transferred to small conical stainless steel tanks for a cold maceration period of approximately three days. Alcoholic fermentation follows, lasting about a week at controlled temperatures around 26°C. Malolactic fermentation is then carried out in 228-liter French oak barriques. The wine subsequently matures in these French oak barriques for several months before undergoing bottle aging in the estate's historic cellars.
