ABOUT THIS WINE
Château Priban is a historic estate in the Haut-Médoc appellation of Bordeaux, with origins dating back to the 18th century. The estate is documented on the historic Belleyme map (drawn between 1762 and 1778) as being surrounded by vines. Having survived the French Revolution under the ownership of the Roborel family, the estate underwent major expansions in the 1830s under Pierre Andrieux Chadeuil, then mayor of Macau, and was modernized in 1879 by wine merchant Théodore Bellemer. Today, while the physical castle remains a privately owned, meticulously restored estate, the viticulture and winemaking are handled entirely by the nearby Château Maucamps under a lease contract (fermage). This unique arrangement allows Château Priban to benefit from the elite-level technical direction, modern sorting technology, and expert barrel programs of a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur estate, offering exceptional value to Bordeaux enthusiasts. Note that consumer labels occasionally feature the typographical spelling 'Château Pibarn'.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking for Château Priban is fully managed by the agronomic and oenological teams of Vitigestion, using the advanced winemaking infrastructure of sister estate Château Maucamps. The grapes, consisting of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, are harvested from a 6-hectare vineyard situated on well-draining Garonne gravel (graves garonnaises) soils in Macau-en-Médoc. The estate practices sustainable viticulture and has held the HVE 3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3) certification since 2021. Following harvest, which is determined by technological analysis and physical berry tasting, the grapes undergo fermentation with precise temperature control. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels, which integrates the structural tannins and adds complexity before traditional fining and bottling.
