ABOUT THIS WINE
Mulderbosch Chenin Blanc Steen op Hout 2022 is a white wine from Stellenbosch, South Africa, made from 100% Chenin Blanc. The wine's name, 'Steen op Hout', signifies its oak influence in fermentation and maturation. It is crafted using grapes from heritage, dry-farmed bush vines planted in 1978, situated on ancient Cambrian Cape granite soils and benefiting from the maritime influence of False Bay. Mulderbosch Vineyards, established in 1989, has a history of innovation, including being one of the first producers of barrel-fermented Chenin Blanc in South Africa. The 2022 vintage was a smaller but high-quality harvest in South Africa, influenced by a cooler growing season.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Mulderbosch Chenin Blanc Steen op Hout 2022 is produced from 100% Chenin Blanc grapes sourced from Stellenbosch. A significant portion of the wine (60-65%) is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, while the remaining 35-40% undergoes fermentation and maturation in neutral French oak barrels and 1,500-litre foudres. The wine is aged for a minimum of six months, with some components, particularly from older vines, receiving up to 12 months of maturation in foudres. The 'Old Vine' designation signifies the use of heritage vines, which are dry-farmed and whole-bunch pressed. The producer's approach emphasizes innovation and quality.
