ABOUT THIS WINE
Tenuta Castiglioni is the historic cradle of the noble Frescobaldi family's agricultural and winemaking empire, held by the family since the 11th century. Located in the rolling hills of Val di Pesa, southwest of Florence, winemaking has been documented on these rich clay soils since the year 1300. The Frescobaldi coat of arms, featuring a crown, shield, and three fortresses, stands as a direct homage to this estate. Historically, the wines of Castiglioni were highly prized, being traded with the Papal Court and supplied directly to the English Court of King Henry VIII. The estate represents a centuries-old tradition of Tuscan viticulture, combining deep historical roots with a commitment to expressing the pure, vibrant character of the local terroir.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for the 2024 vintage focused on preserving the vibrant fruit and freshness of the Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. Harvested from southwest-facing estate slopes with rich clay and limestone soils, the grapes were fully destemmed and gently crushed. Temperature-controlled fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at 25°C, followed by a maceration period on the skins of 10 to 11 days with frequent pumpovers to extract color and supple tannins. Malolactic fermentation was carried out immediately after primary fermentation in steel tanks. To maintain the pristine, unoaked character of the fruit, the wine was aged for 6 months in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with micro-oxygenation, followed by a minimum of 1 month of refinement in the bottle before release.
