ABOUT THIS WINE
Fattoria Poggerino, managed by Piero and Benedetta Lanza, is a family-owned estate in Tuscany, Italy, renowned for its pure expressions of Sangiovese. Located in the high-altitude, cool-climate sub-region of Radda in Chianti, the estate benefits from rocky Galestro soils and an average vine age of 20-30 years. The 2021 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season, with a rainy spring followed by a warm, even summer, leading to concentrated and high-quality fruit. The estate practices certified organic farming and maintains low yields to ensure maximum concentration and quality. Piero Lanza, the winemaker, is known for his meticulous attention to vineyard detail, cultivating 20 different clones of Sangiovese to create a complex and harmonious final blend.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2021 Fattoria Poggerino Chianti Classico DOCG is made from 100% Sangiovese, manually harvested in late September to early October. Grapes are fully destemmed and gently pressed. Vinification occurs in concrete tanks with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts at controlled temperatures (28-30°C) for approximately 35 days, including maceration on skins. Natural malolactic fermentation begins in December. The wine is aged for 12 months, with 80% in large Slavonian and French oak casks (20-25 hL and 4-5 hL tonneaux) and 20% in concrete tanks. It is bottled in the spring with light filtration and undergoes a minimum of 8 months of bottle refinement before release.
