ABOUT THIS WINE
Chip Dry White Port by Taylor Fladgate is a historic wine, recognized as the first dry white Port ever produced, with its initial blend dating back to 1934. Taylor Fladgate, a Port house with roots stretching back to 1692, is dedicated to upholding the highest standards in Port production. The grapes for Chip Dry are cultivated in the Douro Superior, the easternmost part of Portugal's Douro Valley, a region known for its warm climate that ripens the traditional white grape varietals. This wine is distinguished by its dry profile, a result of a unique winemaking process where fortification occurs later than in traditional sweet Ports, allowing more sugar to convert to alcohol. This characteristic dryness, along with its pale straw color and pronounced intensity, makes it a unique offering in the Port world. Chip Dry is also noted for its versatility, often served as an aperitif or in cocktails like the Port & Tonic.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
Chip Dry White Port is produced using traditional Port winemaking methods, with a key distinction in its fortification timing. Grapes, primarily Malvasia Fina and other traditional white Douro varietals from the Douro Superior region, are fermented. The fortification process, where brandy is added to stop fermentation, is carried out later than for sweeter Ports. This technique allows for a greater conversion of grape sugars into alcohol, resulting in the wine's signature dryness. Following fortification, the individual wines are matured in large oak vats for four to five years. This aging period allows for integration and mellowing before the final blend is created and the wine is bottled. The producer, Taylor Fladgate, emphasizes a commitment to sustainable viticulture throughout their grape sourcing.
