ABOUT THIS WINE
4Monos Viticultores (Four Monkeys) is a collaborative project founded in 2009 by four friends—Javier García, Laura Robles, David Velasco, and David Moreno—who met while hiking in the Sierra de Gredos mountains west of Madrid. Driven by a shared passion for the region's rugged landscape, they set out to rescue neglected, high-altitude bush vines. The name 'Cien Lanzas' (One Hundred Spears) pays tribute to the historic coat of arms of Cenicientos, the specific village where these old vines are located. This bottling represents a 'Vino de Pueblo' (village wine), capturing the unique, high-altitude granite terroir of the southern sub-zone of Vinos de Madrid.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking approach of 4Monos is characterized by low-intervention and traditional methods. Grapes are hand-harvested from old bush vines ranging from 30 to 85 years old, grown on sandy soils of decomposed granite. The 2022 vintage was fermented using 100% whole clusters with indigenous yeasts in large wooden vats and open-top casks. Maceration is exceptionally gentle and extended, lasting between 30 to 40 days to extract fine tannins and preserve floral aromatics. The wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in a combination of neutral 500-liter French oak barrels and large foudres (4,800 to 5,000 liters) to avoid oak dominance. It is bottled with minimal sulfur, undergoing only a very light fining and no filtration.
