ABOUT THIS WINE
Cirneco 2016 by Terrazze dell'Etna is a red wine from the Etna Rosso DOC in Sicily, made exclusively from Nerello Mascalese. The wine's name is a nod to the indigenous Etnean hunting dog, symbolizing its elegance and strength. Terrazze dell'Etna, founded in 2008 by Nino Bevilacqua, focuses on the unique volcanic terroir of Mount Etna, reviving traditional viticultural practices. The vineyards are situated on the northwest slopes of the volcano, at altitudes ranging from 550 to 850 meters, where vines, some over 60 years old and ungrafted, are cultivated in mineral-rich volcanic soils. This combination of indigenous grape, high-altitude volcanic terroir, and traditional farming methods defines the wine's distinct character.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Cirneco begins with a lengthy and controlled maceration of the must with the skins, lasting up to 40 days. Malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously. The wine is then aged for 24 months in French oak tonneaux, which are double toasted and in their second or third passage. Following this, the wine undergoes a significant period of bottle aging, a minimum of three years, before release. These techniques are employed to capture the essence of the Nerello Mascalese grape and the volcanic terroir of Etna.
