ABOUT THIS WINE
The Veronica Ortega Cobrana 2021 is a red wine from the D.O. Bierzo in Spain. It is primarily composed of Mencía (75%) with a blend of local white grapes, including Palomino Fino, Godello, Doña Blanca, Alicante Bouschet, and Estaladiña (approximately 25%). The vines are over 90 years old and are situated at approximately 750 meters above sea level, grown in soils of worn slate and clay. Verónica Ortega, the winemaker, is known for her commitment to organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking, aiming to create wines that are a faithful expression of their terroir. The Cobrana is considered a 'village red' that reflects the specific characteristics of the Cobrana area within Bierzo Alto.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Veronica Ortega Cobrana 2021 is produced using organic farming methods. The grapes undergo whole cluster fermentation with indigenous yeasts in large open wood tanks, with extended skin contact. Malolactic fermentation is also carried out. The wine is then aged for 12-13 months in a mix of 1,500-litre clay amphora and 4,300-litre barrels, or 228-litre French oak barrels and 800-litre amphorae. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered with low SO2 levels.
