ABOUT THIS WINE
Oltretorrente's Colli Tortonesi Rosso DOC is a testament to a 'countercurrent' winemaking philosophy, established in 2010 by agronomists Chiara Penati and Michele Conoscente in southeast Piedmont. The estate focuses on preserving the biodiversity of its old, co-planted vineyards, some of which are up to 100 years old and situated on steep slopes. This Rosso is a field blend, predominantly Barbera with a touch of Dolcetto and other rare local grapes, reflecting the historical viticultural landscape of the Colli Tortonesi region. The winery is certified organic and incorporates biodynamic practices, emphasizing minimal intervention to allow the wines to express the specific vineyard, terroir, and vintage.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Colli Tortonesi Rosso DOC is produced using grapes from estate vineyards planted between 1955 and 1990. The grapes are destemmed, and fermentation takes place spontaneously in concrete vats, followed by a long maceration of about one month on the skins. The wine then ages in concrete vats on its fine lees for 6 to 8 months. This approach emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the natural characteristics of the grapes and terroir to define the final wine. The winery is certified organic and employs biodynamic practices.
