ABOUT THIS WINE
Conde de San Cristóbal 2020 is a red wine from the D.O. Ribera del Duero appellation in Spain, produced by Bodega y Viñedos Conde de San Cristóbal, part of Grupo Marqués de Vargas. The grapes are primarily 100% Tinta Fina (Tempranillo). The wine is sourced from the Pago de Valdestremero estate, situated in the 'Golden Mile' region near Peñafiel. This estate features a complex terroir with seven different soil types, varied altitudes, and orientations, with vines ranging in age from 12 to 35 years. The parent group, Bodegas Marqués de Vargas, was founded with a philosophy focused on producing high-quality wines exclusively from their own vineyards, emphasizing sustainable viticulture and meticulous vineyard management. The Conde de San Cristóbal winery was established in 2008 to honor the family's heritage.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Conde de San Cristóbal begins with a manual harvest using small 15kg containers. After destemming, grapes are transferred by gravity to stainless steel tanks for fermentation, which lasts 9-12 days at controlled temperatures of 20-24°C. A cold maceration may precede fermentation, followed by an extended maceration with solids for 15-20 days. The wine then undergoes aging for 12-14 months in new French, Russian, and American oak barrels. The vineyard practices focus on environmental gentleness, with an omission of pesticides and herbicides and the use of organic fertilizers.
