ABOUT THIS WINE
Domaine Yann Chave is a benchmark estate in the Northern Rhône, located in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. Established in the 1970s by Nicole and Bernard Chave as a mixed agricultural farm, the estate was transformed when their son Yann took over in 1996. Yann phased out the orchards to focus entirely on viticulture. A pivotal moment occurred in the early 2000s when Yann suffered severe chemical poisoning from insecticide treatment, prompting an immediate shift to organic farming. Certified organic since 2007, the estate is now run by Yann alongside his children, Daphné and Gauthier, producing wines that beautifully express the stony, pebble-strewn terroirs of Mercurol, Pont de l'Isère, and La Roche de Glun.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The 2024 vintage of this Crozes-Hermitage is crafted from 100% hand-harvested Syrah vines averaging 20 to 25 years of age. In the cellar, the grapes are 100% destemmed to preserve fruit purity and avoid green tannins. Fermentation is carried out using only native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, kept strictly between 20°C and 28°C. Extraction is exceptionally gentle, utilizing pump-overs (remontage) while completely avoiding punch-downs (pigeage) to ensure silky, elegant tannins. Following a maceration period of three to four weeks, the wine is aged for 10 months exclusively in stainless steel tanks, with zero oak contact, to preserve its vibrant fruit and mineral tension.
