ABOUT THIS WINE
Domaine Matassa was established in 2002 by New Zealand-born winemaker Tom Lubbe in the rugged hills of Calce, located in the Roussillon region of France. Lubbe, who previously worked at the legendary Domaine Gauby, focuses on preserving the heritage of extremely old, low-yielding Mediterranean vines. The estate is fully biodynamic, working with indigenous varieties grown on complex soils of black schist, marl, and limestone. Cuvée Marguerite is a celebrated skin-contact white (orange) wine that captures the wild, sun-drenched, yet remarkably fresh spirit of the maritime-influenced Catalan hills.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for Cuvée Marguerite is highly hands-off and natural. The grapes are harvested manually from old vines. The Muscat varieties undergo a period of skin-contact maceration (typically around 10 to 14 days) to extract color, texture, and complex aromatics, while the Macabeu is often directly pressed. Fermentation occurs spontaneously using only native yeasts in old oak demi-muids and foudres. The wine is aged on its fine lees, bottled unfined and unfiltered, and crafted with absolutely no added sulfur dioxide (Sans Sulfites Ajoutés).
