ABOUT THIS WINE
L'Hurluberlu is a 2021 red wine from the Loire Valley, France, made by SAS Sébastien David. It is a 100% Cabernet Franc classified as Vin de France, a choice often made by natural winemakers to adhere to methods outside of traditional AOC rules, such as the complete absence of added sulfites. The wine is certified organic and biodynamic, reflecting Sébastien David's deep commitment to natural farming practices. David represents the 15th generation of his family to be involved in winemaking in the region, with a legacy dating back to 1634. His winemaking philosophy centers on minimal intervention to allow the terroir to express itself purely. The name 'L'Hurluberlu' itself signifies an eccentric individual, referencing David's dedication to biodynamic viticulture, which often incorporates celestial calendars.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
L'Hurluberlu is crafted using 100% carbonic maceration with whole grape clusters, a process that lasts approximately 25 days in tanks. Fermentation is carried out using only native yeasts, and crucially, no sulfur dioxide is added at any stage, from vinification to bottling. The wine is neither fined nor filtered, preserving its natural character. Following fermentation, the wine is aged in tanks before being bottled. The grapes are sourced from vines averaging 25 years old, grown on gravel and sand soils with a limestone subsoil. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic by Demeter, underscoring a commitment to sustainable and natural viticultural practices.
