ABOUT THIS WINE
The Dea Vulcano Etna Rosso is a red wine from the Etna DOC appellation in Sicily, Italy, produced by Donnafugata. Its name, 'Goddess Volcano,' pays homage to its origin on the slopes of Mount Etna. The wine is crafted primarily from Nerello Mascalese with a touch of Nerello Cappuccio, indigenous Sicilian grape varieties cultivated in high-altitude vineyards on the northern slope of the volcano. These vineyards are characterized by volcanic, sandy, mineral-rich soils, low rainfall, and cool, breezy summers, contributing to the wine's distinctive profile. Donnafugata, a family winery established in 1983, is dedicated to producing wines that reflect the unique terroirs of Sicily, emphasizing a connection between art and wine.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The Dea Vulcano Etna Rosso undergoes fermentation primarily in cement tanks, with a portion also fermented in used French oak barriques. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in cement and oak, before being bottle-aged for at least 10 months prior to release. This process aims to preserve the varietal character of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio while allowing for the development of complexity and integration of flavors.
