ABOUT THIS WINE
Dominio de Atauta is a benchmark estate located in the unique, high-altitude Atauta Valley within the Soria province, at the extreme eastern edge of Ribera del Duero. Founded in 2000, the winery is dedicated to preserving an extraordinary heritage of pre-phylloxera Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) vines, some of which are over 150 years old. Situated at elevations between 940 and 1,010 meters, these ancient vineyards thrive in a harsh continental climate with extreme diurnal temperature shifts. The estate meticulously manages over 600 micro-plots, blending fruit from 25 distinct terroirs to craft a wine that reflects the complex limestone and sandy soils of the valley, offering a unique combination of power, elegance, and mineral freshness.

WINE MAKING PROCESS
The winemaking process for the 2022 vintage was marked by an exceptionally early harvest starting in September to preserve natural acidity during a hot, dry growing season. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a double selection process. Fermentation is conducted by individual terroir plots using indigenous yeasts in a combination of open wooden vats and concrete tanks. The wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels (15% new and 85% used), followed by an additional 4 to 5 months of settling in large 5,200-liter French oak vats (tinas) before bottling, resulting in a total wood aging period of 18 to 19 months.
